The essentials

Start with a useful question.

Open a guide below for practical steps you can use before and after an inspection.

01Before you book

What should I send with a quote request?

The property details help us confirm the right inspection scope and appointment.

Read the guide

Start with the property address, approximate square footage, and year built if known. Include your inspection deadline and the best way to reach you.

Tell us about any known access limits, detached structures, or specific concerns. If you want radon, mold, moisture, or other testing, mention it at this stage so the scope and fee can be confirmed before booking.

A quote request starts the conversation. Your appointment is confirmed separately.

02Inspection day

How do I prepare the property?

Access and working utilities help the inspector evaluate the accessible systems.

Read the guide

Confirm entry arrangements and make sure utilities are on. Coordinate access to the attic, crawlspace, electrical panel, water heater, and heating and cooling equipment.

Secure pets and clear stored items from access points. Share known concerns before the appointment. Avoid entering unsafe areas or operating unfamiliar equipment yourself.

For buyers and agents, the inspection-day checklist makes it easier to coordinate these details with the seller or listing agent.

03After the inspection

How should I read the report?

Use the photographs and recommendations together to understand each finding.

Read the guide

Read the full report, including the scope and any areas that could not be evaluated. A summary is a starting point, not a substitute for the detailed findings.

For each concern, identify what was observed, the recommended follow-up, and who should evaluate or repair it. Ask HSH about anything you do not understand.

Keep the report after the purchase. It can help organize maintenance and repair planning, alongside later evaluations and work records.

A question about your home?

Tell us what you’re buying, maintaining, or concerned about. HSH can help you identify the appropriate inspection or testing service.
